When should you ask yourself questions about the media you encounter? EVERY TIME! Even if you’re just watching a YouTube video of somebody doing a stunt, ask yourself why it was filmed, who filmed it (did the performer know he or she was being filmed?), are there any editing techniques to make it look better?
Is what you are being told true or made up?
Media messages are designed to influence, although the reason may be subtle (doesn’t this look fun - try it!) rather than overt (a food commercial). Make sure you are vigilant about questioning their effect on you by thinking about especially before you act based on the influence of a media message.
