Aloha!
This website is my Final Project for my Master's degree in Educational Technology. I have created an instructional module that will introduce the topic of media literacy to undergraduate students and provide students with some necessary tools for analyzing and better understanding media. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to read about media literacy, watch some videos and look at some cartoons, and answer some quiz questions. You interact with media all the time - now find out what you might have been missing...
Please follow the links at the top from left to right, beginning with the Pre-Test (don't worry - it's painless!).
Legal Kine Stuff:
My name is Amy Saxton, and I am a graduate student at the University of Hawaii (UH). A requirement of my Master’s degree program is to conduct a research project. The purpose of my project is to develop and evaluate a web-based instructional module for introducing media literacy to undergraduate students. I am asking you to participate in this project because you are at least 18 years old and enrolled as a student at UH Hilo.
Project Description – Activities and Time Commitment: Participants will review instructional material and take quizzes that are posted on the Internet. Quiz questions are primarily multiple choice; however, there will be three open-ended narrative responses. Completion of the module will take approximately 30-45 minutes.
Benefits and Risks: There will be no direct benefit to you for participating in this survey. The results of this project may contribute to a better understanding of the preferences and needs of UH students for learning about media literacy. There is little risk to you in participating in this project.
Confidentiality and Privacy: This survey is anonymous. I will not ask you to provide any personal information that could be used to identify you. Likewise, please do not include any personal information, such as your name, in your survey responses.
Voluntary Participation: Participation in this project is voluntary. You can freely choose to participate or to not participate in this survey, and there will be no penalty or loss of benefits for either decision. If you agree to participate, you can stop at any time without any penalty. Since participation is voluntary and anonymous, there is no connection to the grade in your English class.
Questions: If you have any questions about this study, you can contact me at [email protected] You can also contact my faculty advisor, Dr. Peter Leong, at [email protected]
If you have any questions about your rights as a research participant, you can contact the UH Committee on Human Studies at 808.956.5007 or [email protected]
