How Might This Message Be Interpreted?
As this Malcolm Evans cartoon shows, different people react differently to the same situation.
These differing reactions are the result of many reasons, including age, ethnicity, political affiliation, economic status, educational experience, religious beliefs, etc.
Even people who share many characteristics, like family members, don’t perceive media messages in exactly the same way.
When you are reviewing a media message, ask yourself "How might different people understand this message differently?"
Do you think your parents would view the message the same way you do? How about your grandparents? Best friend? Teacher? Religious leader?
